1. About the Journal

The International Journal of Geoscience and Environment (IJGE) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by the Faculty of Geoscience and Environment (FGE) at Hormuud University. IJGE publishes original, rigorous, and policy-relevant research in Geoscience, Environmental science, and energy resource engineering, with an emphasis on scholarship that advances knowledge relevant to Somalia and the wider Horn of Africa while remaining of interest to a global academic readership. The journal follows international best practice in scholarly publishing and adheres to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Code of Conduct.

2. Aims and Scope

IJGE is a specialised journal covering the geoscience and environmental sciences. It welcomes theoretical, empirical, applied, and review contributions that make a clear, demonstrable contribution to knowledge or practice. Indicative — not exhaustive — subject areas include:

Geology: structural geology, sedimentology, stratigraphy, mineralogy, petrology, and economic geology

Hydrogeology and groundwater resource development

Engineering geology, geotechnical investigation, and geophysical survey methods

Geological mapping, remote sensing, and GIS applications

Natural hazards, geohazard assessment, and disaster risk reduction

Climate change science, climatology, and meteorology

Environmental impact assessment and environmental management

Water resources, watershed management, and drought resilience

Coastal and marine environmental studies; renewable energy and sustainability

Petroleum geology, hydrocarbon exploration, and reservoir engineering

Drilling, production, and natural gas engineering

Submissions are welcomed from authors worldwide. The journal particularly encourages research addressing challenges relevant to Sub-Saharan Africa, and other developing regions, without restricting eligibility on the basis of author nationality, institutional affiliation, or geographic focus.

14. Publication Frequency and Fees

IJGE publishes on a continuous basis with articles compiled into Biannual, two issues/year. All articles submitted on or before December 31, 2027, will be eligible for a 100% waiver of Article Processing Charges (APCs). No fees are charged at the submission or review stage.

15. Editorial Contact and Governance

The journal is governed by an Editor-in-Chief, supported by an Editorial Board of subject-area experts drawn from national and international institutions, and an Advisory Board providing strategic oversight. For editorial queries, submission support, or ethics concerns, authors should contact the Editorial Office of the journal, via email.

Additional Journal Information

The journal is published twice a year and accepts manuscripts in both English and Arabic, supporting global academic participation and regional inclusion.

Scope of the Journal includes (but is not limited to): Soil Science, Geochemistry, and Geomorphology.
